Not a Mind Reader

It’s eerie; can we read each other’s minds?

My husband and I recently celebrated our 58th wedding anniversary and often anticipate comments before we speak. It’s weird and yet shows our deep intimacy. We are fulfilling God’s command to become one.

“Then the rib which the Lord God had taken from man He made into a woman, and He brought her to the man.

And Adam said:

‘This is now bone of my bones
And flesh of my flesh;
She shall be called Woman,
Because she was taken out of Man.’

Therefore a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and they shall become one flesh (Genesis 2:22-24 NKJV).”

Just suppose…

A perfect stranger could read your mind.

Strangers are supposed to know nothing about us. We might fill in the blanks with our names, occupations and where we live. The rest is personal and kept private.

A Samaritan woman met Jesus by divine appointment (John 4:1-42). She went to draw water from a well and made the most important contact in her life. Jesus drew the stranger into a conversation and took her by surprise. They spoke of water, places of worship, and failed marriages.

It seemed like He could read her mind.

The woman walked away, but she didn’t drop the subject.

“The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ (John 4:28-29 NKJV)?”

Will I allow Him to search my mind and heart?
