Envy Does Not Produce Promised Hope – Robert Schaetzle
“Let not your heart envy sinners but continue in the fear of the Lord all the day. Surely there is a future, and your hope will not be cut off.” Proverbs 23:17-18 ESV
“When the life of grace first begins in the soul, we certainly draw near to God – but it is with great fear and trembling. The soul that is conscience of guilt, and humbled by it, is overawed with the seriousness of its position – it is forced to bow by a sense of the grandeur of Jehovah, in whose presence it stands.” – C. H. Spurgeon
We become more aware, hearts mindful of transformation in the presence of God’s spiritual leading. “For where [our] treasure is, there will [our] heart be also.” (Matthew 6:21 ESV) This is the beginning of our growing and learning to be more Christ-like in our being transformed! Throughout the years of our wearing the name ‘Christian,’ living out our daily experiences measures the faith given us. (Romans 12:3)
We’re faced daily through marketing strategies to be the opposite of what God created us to be; to envy this person, or desire to obtain this item, or climb the corporate ladder to prominence in position or authority.
But our true hope and purpose does not come from our own reasoning. Purposes of the flesh are not the will or purpose of God’s Holy Spirit living in us, if we’re seeking our future hope to be that of God’s design.
Dedicating each day to want our Lord to lead is recognizing our commitment to put Christ first and foremost. This is success to finding contentment. It takes away the uncertainty of decisions we make throughout the day pushed onto us through media marketing of half-truths. Often the wrong half!
Father, thank you for teaching us to recognize that the uncertainty of the world around us is not your purpose, but continuing in the fear of the Lord is. Never to be cut off is your future for us. Amen.
